Eaves to deliver human trafficking training to frontline professionals

In January 2013, Eaves and two other organisations were awarded funding from the Home Office to deliver training in England and Wales to frontline professionals including nurses, midwives, sexual health workers, police officers and prison staff. The training aims to raise awareness and understanding of trafficking amongst those who are most likely to come into contact with victims of trafficking and provide frontline professionals with the knowledge and tools to know how best to help potential victims of trafficking.

Eaves is working in partnership with the Counter Human Trafficking Bureau and Thames Reach whose added expertise around child trafficking and the trafficking of men, respectively, ensures that the training encompasses trafficking in all its forms.

Sally Montier, Eaves Training and Capacity Building Officer says:

“We are really pleased to be delivering this training to frontline staff in both the health sector and the criminal justice sector. Eaves has been working with victims of trafficking for almost a decade and in that time has developed an expertise in supporting victims of trafficking. It’s really important that those who are most likely to come into contact with victims of trafficking are equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to identify a potential victim and feel confident in beginning to support them.”

The training programme will be offered at three levels to reflect the different training needs of frontline workers. One of these levels includes a ‘Train to train’ module which will equip participants to effectively disseminate the learning amongst their peers, thereby increasing the reach and longer term impact of the training.
